Creating a Healthy Culture

Every organization and team has the capacity to cultivate a thriving culture, but it requires a deliberate and focused effort. At Compass Coaching and Consulting, we offer a comprehensive framework designed to help you achieve this goal. Our approach combines the power of the ‘Five Voices’ concept with tools that act as mirrors, providing valuable insights and guidance.

To create a healthy culture, it begins with establishing a shared vocabulary. When everyone within the organization or team understands and utilizes this vocabulary, it becomes an integral part of their communication. We employ visual tools to bring this vocabulary to life, leveraging the concept of neurolinguistics. These tools simplify, scale, and sustain the vocabulary, thus fostering an objective common language.

By having an objective common language, there is less room for subjective interpretations. Instead, everyone operates on the same page, using consistent terminology. For instance, when we mention “passing the baton,” it holds a clear and common meaning. Likewise, referring to the five voices brings clarity to the conversation. Identifying oneself as a Connector or Creative becomes a shared language. This objective common language enhances communication patterns, leading to improved relationships and building relational trust, which in turn cultivates a healthy culture.

Strategy is important – AND- at Compass Coaching and Consulting, we firmly believe that culture holds greater significance than strategy. Culture tends to trump strategy during times of pressure. And if the culture is not healthy, much damage can be done during these stressful periods.  When companies or teams face challenges and high-pressure situations, the strength of their culture becomes paramount. A robust and productive culture is essential. To build such culture, developing a shared vocabulary with a shared way of acting on values is crucial. Visual tools play a pivotal role in this process, creating memorable and sticky concepts. They establish an objective common language which empowers individuals and teams to be more effective, productive, and ultimately healthier.
