In any change effort within and organization, one needs to simplify complex ideas for widespread use. The key is to ensure that the concepts would be easily understandable by individuals of all backgrounds, including an educated 13-year-old. When doing so, one can create a common language and clear objectives for the organization which will drive progress, foster personal growth, and enhance team and organizational performance.
One important aspect of the tool being introduced today is the emphasis on leadership language and the differentiation between objective and subjective language. Objective language promotes mutual understanding and agreement, while subjective language can lead to confusion and unfair accountability. By employing terms like “liberate,” “call people up, not out,” and “know yourself to lead yourself” we can establish a common and objective leadership language for everyone involved.
To further enhance accessibility, we incorporates this language into a visual tool. While some might view the tool as simplistic or even corny, its simplicity is intentional. This approach draws on neurolinguistics, using visual representation to imprint and facilitate the understanding of ideas. For example, the infinity loop, (which I’ve previously introduced in a video) visually signifies the concept of knowing oneself to lead oneself. It encompasses tendencies, patterns, actions, consequences and reality. The visual nature of the tool enables it to be easily taught to a 13-year-old, a team, or even oneself.
At Compass Coaching and Consulting, a primary focus is on helping individuals, teams and organizations to become 100% healthy and to continually grow and improve in their effectiveness. Personal growth takes precedence over focusing on others’ flaws. Additionally, the symbol of the “X” represents intentional multiplication, encouraging leaders to pass on their knowledge, wisdom, and skills to others as well as helping to provide open doors and opportunities for the growth of those around them. Whether it’s with their children, colleagues, or anyone who would benefit, the aim of the leaders we cultivate is for them to be a multiplier rather than a detractor.
In summary, scalable people development relies on a common and effective language that is objective and viral. Visual tools enhance simplicity and memorability. The focus is on personal transformation, striving for 100% health and capacity, while also empowering others to multiply their knowledge and skills. When these principles are effectively applied, scalable people development becomes a reality.
